Children learn multiculturalism by playing at Ruiskatu

What is the result of the Mahis-project of four exchange students and four Finnish students? Lots of laughter, creative ideas and six meetings with family day care children where multiculturalism was the leading idea.
Playing with the "Leikkivarjo"
Each meeting had a special theme according to the countries of the exchange students and on other interest e.g. animals and English language. The exchange students came from Russia, Austria and Spain.

Travelling to Spain
Our second meeting with the children had Spain as its theme. We began all our meetings with a name song and the Finnish song “Matkustan ympäri maailmaa”, where we learned the Spanish greeting ”Holà”. The children got to know the songs and greetings very well and were singing them at home too!

In the meeting we wanted to keep the children active so we had prepared them a “Temppurata”, where one of the Spanish students acted as a guide. The children were flying to Spain as airplanes, climbing on a mountain and crossing a river. Of course we had to play football too since we were in Spain and we had a real Spanish goal keeper to inspire the children!

Mahis project in a nutshell
The Mahis project aims to support well-being and communality by using community working methods in a multiprofessional environment. The students come from different countries and different degree programs. Five projects were held during March and April 2013.
