"Let´s get to know each other” – co-operation between Hamburg University of Applied Sciences and Turku University of Applied Sciences

On our last year of study, we, students for Bachelor of Social Services, had a great opportunity to co-operate with couple of teachers and a group of students from Germany during 16 - 18.9.2014 in our school Turku University of Applied Sciences.

Studies don`t always have to be boring, it can also be fun!
A little group of our students organized an evening party for German students on Wednesday the 17th of September. The party took place on the beach of Uittamo. That was very beautiful and nice place to relax after two busy days. The party started at six o'clock and reservation of the place was made until eleven.

There was served some Finnish food and we had a few Finnish games that we played together having fun. There were also one special corner where you could taste a specialities of Finland. Do you like “mämmi”, they didn`t?
Playing "Let´s get to know each other" -bingo

“Let`s get to know each other" -bingo
It was nice to see that adults were so excited about those games.

First of all we had game named “Let`s get to know each other" -bingo. The idea was try to get names on the bingo-form, that had different kind of claims. For example someone could ask: "Have you ever tried ice swimming?" If I had done it, she got my name on her bingo-form. You can believe us; any student from Germany hadn’t tried ice swimming.

There were also three other games which were named “Tukkihumala”, “Mölkky” and “Quiz of Finland”.
Spirit of the evening party

Response from the evening party
Organizers got some good feedback from the German students. They liked the party place and said that it was so beautiful because of the view.

“The evening party was nice because of the spirit. Students participated very well in the games and it felt like they enjoyed themselves”, said Paula Mäensalo who was one of the organizers.

All in all that party was good opportunity to get to know better each other.
Visiting Rakuunatie Daycare Centre

The visit contented also much more
It wasn`t just the party. In those three days together we had different kind of visits. We visited Wäinö Aaltonen Museum, Rakuunatie Daycare Centre, Adventure Park, Heideken Family Centre and two different kind of schools: Vasaramäki Comprehensive School and CO Malm School.

We had also two lectures of early education systems in Finland and Germany by lecturer Johanna Gadd and professor Petra Strehmel. During these lectures we had two round table discussions and group works.
